Project Manager for a reporting and analytics application shared that that his development team wanted to focus on system performance for the foreseeable future instead of developing new features.
Some back-end analyses suggested that users may experience undue system delays.
I suggested to a use standardized questionnaire (the User Experience Questionnaire or UEQ) to evaluate how our users feel about the system’s performance.
Determine how our users perceive the system’s performance.
If users find the performance of the system acceptable, we may not need to spend as much resources on improving system performance.
UEQ Scale Structure
I proposed to use the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) to assess how users perceive the performance of this analytics tool.
Using the UEQ will allow us to measure multiple UX-related metrics.
The program team identified clients who appeared to have experienced performance delays and some that did not.
We recruited participants via email and conducted the survey on SurveyGizmo (now Alchemer).
The UEQ is a 26-item standardized instrument to assess the user experience of a product.
The 'slow-fast' scale assesses the perceived performance of the product.
General User Experience:
The perception of the reporting and analytics tool was positive (significantly above the neutral rating of 4).
There was room of improvement.
Perceived performance
Few participants (12%) seem to perceive the reporting and analytics tool to be slow.
32% of participants were neutral
55% indicated that they found it fast (rating of 5 or more).
Opportunity to rerun the same questionnaire periodically (yearly).
A review of the existing literature on perceived performance could probably inform design.
